What is child labour ?
Child labour refers to the exploitation of children through any form of work that deprives children of their childhood , interferes with their ability to attend regular school , and is mentally , physically , socially or morally harmful.
World Day against child labour
12 June is the world day against child labour .
The international labour organization ( ILO) , the United Nations body that regulates the world of work , launched the world day against child labour in 2002 in order to bring attention and join efforts to fight against child labour.
This day brings together governments , local authorities , civil society and international , workers , employers organizations to point out the child labour problem and define the guidelines to help child labourers .
Children aged to 6 to 14 years are entitled to free and compulsory education.
Child labour laws
As per the child and adolescent labour ( prohibition and regulation ) Act , 1986 , amended in 2016 ( CLPR ) , a " child " is defined as any person below the age of 14 , and the CLPR Act prohibits employment of a child in any employment including as a domestic help .
